VDJ Mic issues [as addressed by Dystopic]

A lot of people are having trouble with VDJ7 and the microphone: Here's the fix.

EASY METHOD (FOR SOME):

http://i55.tinypic.com/19utz5.jpg

Select the microphone from the input menu under Sound Setup. You should then get a button in the upper right. It should default to press-to-talk mode (though it's possible to bind this to a key).

You -MAY- have to select Master + Microphone under your output settings (right underneath the input menu!).

You can test by recording to a file and testing the mic. If you hear yourself in the recording, you're golden for broadcasting with it.

WHAT TO DO IF YOU DO NOT SEE A MICROPHONE IN YOUR INPUT MENU:

This is a lot more tricky. If you don't see your mic, you will need to go into advanced mode under your outputs menu.
You must add decks 1 & 2 (and 3 & 4 if you are mixing with 4 decks or more) as your main sound card.

You must then add a record loopback and select the line input of a SECOND SOUND CARD. Connect your speaker output from sound card 1 to the line input of sound card 2 (you will need the proper cable to do this). You cannot use this method without two sound cards.

The broadcast will then broadcast the Line Input of sound card #2, which should include your mix AND mic. Once again, be sure to test this with a recording first. It would be best to try actually blending two songs, and talking at the same time, to be sure all modes work properly.

IF NEITHER METHOD WORKS FOR YOU:

You must downgrade to Virtual DJ 6.

Select Master + Mic under config, under your broadcast settings. Select your microphone input as the extra item.

************

It has come to my attention that there are some other common problems some DJs encounter with Virtual DJ.

INTEGRATED SOUND CARDS:

Those with older integrated sound cards may not be able to use Full Duplex audio. Full Duplex means being able to play music, talk into the mic and have the mic audio broadcast out. Some higher end integrated sound does support full duplex, however. A good way to test would be to turn your microphone on, play some music, and see if you can hear BOTH the music and your voice thru the mic at the same time. If you can, this does not apply to you, you can proceed with VDJ as normal.

Virtual DJ absolutely requires Full Duplex audio in order to be able to use the mic and play music at the same time, otherwise, using your mic will cutoff your music. If you do not have a Full Duplex card, you can only broadcast music. And with such a sound card, you may be better off using SAM Broadcaster anyway. Virtual DJ is a professional-grade tool, and requires a certain minimum in terms of your sound card.

Inexpensive full duplex sound cards can be had for less then $50 (USD).

RECORD LOOPBACK (NO MICROPHONE DISPLAYED IN INPUT MENU):

If you are using Virtual DJ 7, and you don't see your microphone listed in the input box, you have two choices. The easy choice is to downgrade to Virtual DJ 6, and where you input your broadcast information, change to MASTER + MIC (you must select the microphone from this dropdown box). You should do a test broadcast (or record to a file) to ensure both music and microphone work at the same time.

Virtual DJ 6 is good enough for most DJs, even professional RL DJs. Only those who need more than 2 decks, or use certain kinds of 4-deck external controllers, or expanded FX/Loop controls have a real need for VDJ 7.

HOWEVER! If you still wish to proceed with Virtual DJ 7, you can use the record loopback method touched on briefly in the previous Help document. However, this requires TWO good sound cards and a fair amount of technical expertise. You are best off messaging me (Xealot Camino) and I can try and guide you through this process. Be warned, I will ask you why you're not just downgrading to VDJ 6 :).
